Our Winter Concert and Holiday Sing-A-Long was a HUGE success.   Now, it's time for our 4th and 5th grade musical.  We will, therefore suspend rehearsals until the end of February.

Otsego hosted the Board of Education meeting on Monday, January 9,2005. We used this opportunity to invite the public to view our new second grade wing and all of the wonderful learning that takes place there. Visitors were treated to a wonderful evening filled with entertainment, tours and delicious refreshments. Many of ours students' talents were showcased. Small groups from our orchestraperformed at various times throughout the evening. Our video club produced two iMovies that were enjoyed by all.

Visit these sites for some interesting information about composers, performers, instruments, etc.  There are games, biographies, sound clips, lots of fun "stuff".

Check this section often. I will post interesting sites and articles pertaining to music and music education.

Music is such an important part of a child's developmental process. When children are successful with the music curriculum, they are successful learners. Music skills assist with reading readiness, mathematical reasoning and problem solving skills. The short article found at the following link explains the importance of music as it answers some commonly asked questions.

This article calls itself a Fact Sheet on Arts Education.  It is an  informative document compiled by Americans for the Arts.  Read it and take note of what studies have found about children who are involved in music education, both during and after school.

Meet the Challenge!

For our 4th and 5th graders, I am hoping to create a web based scavenger hunt.  We will collect information about some famous composers.  Then we will use this information to create short Press Releases and we will film our interviews, in costume of course!

This project is still in it's infancy.....I'll need volunteers to help create the questions, find the sites for the answers and update this page and our e-board.  Any helpers?  Let me know.

Well.........we have begun.  Look on Mrs. Reichstein's  (Ms. Rickey's) eboard and you will find the composers we have chosen to "highlight" and the biography web quest survey.  Check often, we will be adding composers frequently.
